Battlefield 2042 beta: List of known bugs and launch issues

Battlefield 2042 is nearly here, promising a return for the franchise to modern combat and near-future warfare. Depending on how things pan out, it could even be one of the best Xbox games available this year. With that said, like any multiplayer game, problems can occur, which is why we’re keeping track of all the server issues, bugs and other problems in Battlefield 2042. This way, you can know if others are experiencing an issue and how to fix it or when to expect an update.

Battlefield 2042 beta bugs and launch issues

The Battlefield 2042 beta begins on Oct. 6 for early access players, opening up to everyone on Oct. 8 and running until Oct. 10, 2021. Early access is available for anyone who preorders the game or is subscribed to EA Play, a service included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Developer DICE has published a list of known issues that players could run into during the Battlefield 2042 beta. We’ve compiled the problems below and we’ll be closely monitoring to see if any other issues crop up repeatedly. Bear in mind that this is a beta test, a fully open beta for much of its duration at that, so it’s perfectly normal if there are server problems or other connection errors, as the teams at DICE and Electronic Arts are using this test to measure various metrics.

‘Backend server could not be found’ error

Electronic Arts has announced a period of planned maintenance ahead of the Battlefield 2042 open beta rollout, taking servers offline at 7 a.m. UTC, before opening to all at 9 a.m. UTC. The two-hour window delays the open beta rollout, resulting in a 2 a.m. PT / 5 a.m. ET / 10 a.m. UK launch.

🚨 UPDATE ON OPEN BETA 🚨

Open Access will now kick off at 0900 UTC – All times below 🕘👀 #BattlefieldBeta

To keep things running smoothly, we’ll take some time to perform essential maintenance on the servers before we switch to Open Access

    ‘Unknown Error’ notification

Those in the Battlefield 2042 beta may also face a red notification reading “Unknown Error” in the top right-hand corner of the screen. The nondescript error appears to relate to ongoing server issues, with work underway on a fix, according to Electronic Arts.

Open Beta Early Access QR Code

The Battlefield 2042 beta has now opened its doors to early access players, welcoming those with Battlefield 2042 preorders, plus active EA Play or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions. Some eligible participants face a welcome screen, accompanied by a QR Code, prompting a preorder of the full game.

Electronic Arts has acknowledged the issue and deployed an update with an intended fix.

    Performance problems

Summary This build of the game is a few months old, meaning it’s not fully optimized and players may run into performance drops or visual glitches

    No cross-play parties

Summary Cross-platform play is in for the beta however, players will not be able to create parties across consoles and play with each other.

Quick fix: DICE expects this issue to be solved by the full launch of the game.

    PS5 Adaptive Triggers

Summary The PS5 version of the game does currently properly support the PS5 DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Quick fix: DICE is investigating adding support at or after launch.

    Commorose

Summary The open beta supports the pinging system, with more to come at a later date.

    HDR on PC disabled

Summary HDR is not currently supported on the PC version of the game in the beta.

Quick fix: DICE hopes to have this ready in time for the game’s full launch.

    VOIP disabled

Summary VOIP is disabled for the open beta.

Quick fix: DICE hopes to have this ready in time for the game’s full launch.

    Continuous EMP visuals

Summary A very rare issue is known to cause players to continue having an EMP effect on their screen even after dying.

Quick fix: Leaving and rejoining the server should solve this problem.

    Xbox gameplay recording problems

Summary Xbox players can’t record gameplay using the system’s built-in record feature during the beta.

Quick fix: DICE has fixed this issue in the latest build of the game, meaning it won’t happen at the game’s full launch.

Battlefield 2042 is scheduled to launch for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PC, PS5 and PS4 on Nov. 22, 2021.
